For those of you that may be unaware Rockstar Energy Drink has agreed to donate $100,000 in a effort to improve it relations ship with LGBT markets. This has come about due to increasing buzz about Rockstar Energy Drinks relationship to Micheal Savage. The controversial talk show host clearly has stated that he is anti-gay, and continues to do so on a regular basis during the broadcast of his radio program “The Savage Nation”. Rockstar’s founder Russell Weiner is Michael Savage and Janet Weiner, Rockstar’s CFO, is Mr. Savage’s wife. Until very recently she was also the CFO of Savage Productions, the entertainment company behind the Savage Nation radio show. The beverage company has come under fire from a number of blogs referencing facts from www.thetruthaboutrockstarenergydrink.com and other reputable sources. The resulting effect on Rockstar’s sales has prompted Rockstar to take action. Initially, Rockstar threatened these blogs with legal notices, but this seemed to only worsen the problem. The latest attempt to put out the negative PR fire involves Rockstar making the donations to demonstrate it’s strong relationship with the LGBT community. While I am sure the money will be put to good use, there may be good reason for the offer to be rejected.
Rockstar’s corporate officers Russell Weiner and Janet Weiner have a long history of supporting the statements of Micheal Savage. Russell Weiner himself has been documented as making anti-gay statements. The recent push for a boycott from the LGBT community has clearly affected Rockstar’s bottom line. It certainly does seem that any effort they are making is simply an attempt to make this financially damaging situation go away. Any research into the annual sales figures of Rockstar Energy Drink will show you that this $100,000 dollar donation is not a serious amount of money. Their statement about distancing themselves from the intolerant statements made by Micheal Savage was vague at best. Almost no clarity was given into the personal views of Russell Weiner or his mother. Additionally, the claim they made in an attempt to blame their law suit happy lawyers for being overzealous is nonsense. The legal notices that were sent to so many bloggers were done so at the request of Rockstar. Lawyers don’t act without their clients knowledge or they risk losing their license for such behavior. I am currently in proceedings in an attempt to defend my website www.thetruthaboutrockstar.com from their efforts. Let me assure you their lawyers are not acting without being directed to do so by the powers that be at Rockstar Energy Drink.
With so many tough issues facing the GLBT community today, it is important to stand tough on your beliefs. Support companies that really have demonstrated themselves to deserve your support.
